Most students arrive at Sixth Form with no clear idea of what they will be leaving us to do at the end of Year 13, so giving students the opportunity to explore their future options is integrated into everything that we do in Sixth Form.

Our weekly academic mentoring sessions allow students to explore their own motivations and develop ideas of which path they will take in the future. Sheffield University Outreach Team provide a comprehensive guide to choosing degree courses, the application process and student finance.  Our Careers fair, Lunchtime Careers sessions and apprenticeships information sessions all allow students to explore the options available and regular trips such as the ones to the UCAS discovery fair, CERN, London and even Chester Zoo enable students to explore options and develop interests.

We offer a comprehensive Oxbridge and Medical School Coaching and application programme, including mentoring from former students and trips to Universities.  In partnership with Rowethorne Home for Older People we are able to offer volunteering and work experience opportunities for prospective medics, nurses and physiotherapists.

In partnership with Derby Law School we are training a mock trial team who will compete against other schools in the Midlands. This is a wonderful opportunity for out budding lawyers.

Unifrog is an important tool, which allows our students to explore degree and apprenticeship options in the UK and around the world.  It also provides students with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in areas that they are interested in through Massive Open Online Courses MOOCs.

Swanwick Hall Sixth Form partners with The Sutton Trust, Sheffield Discovery, Nottingham Access and York University’s YorWay programme to offer mentoring and summer school opportunities to our students especially those who are the first in their families to apply to University.

There are many opportunities to meet employers; in addition to our careers fair and mock interview sessions, we run a comprehensive work experience programme especially targeting students at employers in the student’s field of interest.

Our NextGenLeaders program allows students to develop the entrepreneurial skills necessary to set up and run a social enterprise with a community partner.

Year 12 Work Experience Week – Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July 2025

All students in Year 12 will undertake one week of Work Experience as part of their entitlement to Work Related Learning which will consist of a mock interview day in school and then a week at their off-site placement with employers. Even though students do not take up their placement until the summer term, we need to secure placements and carry out the necessary checks in advance.

Students are responsible for finding and negotiating their own placement. However, as a school, we recognise the value of Work Experience and will support every child through the process.  A list of available placements can be accessed via the Safety First database Safety Measures and a link is also available on the school website under Curriculum / Careers.

There are over 12000 placements listed and details of how to access the site are:

  • User name: TTCTStudent
  • Password: TTCT2024 (Note that this MUST be in capital letters)

The deadline for requesting placements is Thursday 3rd April 2025

Students have also had an assembly explaining the process and have been issued with their Work Experience pack; this can also be downloaded below.
