Health & Social Care Summary

Throughout your life, you will have come into contact with Health and Social Care services in some way. This may be through vaccinations, A&E or family living in a residential care home. Across the health and Social Care sector, there are hundreds of different jobs. Each of these require a different skill set. This course develops these skills and covers topics such as: relationships in care settings, legislation, equality and discrimination, effective communication and why care should be personalised.

How you will study

This course is structured with a mixture of examinations and coursework. You will develop your ability to evaluate your ideas, theories, and concepts. You must also be able to create a discussion in your answers coming to an overall judgement. In the coursework you must be able to apply your knowledge to differing scenarios or individuals with specific needs. The lessons will involve independent research tasks, class discussions, note taking and practice exam questions

Component breakdown

Unit 1 – Building Positive Relationships – Coursework which you will complete February                 of Y12 

Unit 2 – Equality, Diversity & Rights – 1.5 hr exam to be taken in January of Y12 

Unit 3 – Health, Safety & Security – 1.5 hr exam to be taken in June of Y12  

Unit 10 – Nutrition – Coursework which you will complete by the end of Y12 

Unit 4 – Anatomy & Physiology – 2 hr exam to be taken in June of Y13 

Unit 13 – Sexual Health, reproduction & Early Development Stages – Coursework which                     you will complete in Y13
